Our Health Policy is carefully defined in appreciation of the parent’s school and workplace responsibilities, without neglecting the health of the children. In the best interest of your child and the other children at the Program, he/she should be cared for at home when they show any symptoms of ill health. These symptoms may include:

  • a cold that hinders the child’s day to day functioning
  • an earache
  • discharge from eyes or ears
  • fever
  • vomiting or diarrhea
  • unexplained rash or skin eruption

If your child is well enough to attend the program, he/she must participate in all aspects of the program including outdoor activities.

Please be advised that if a child shows any symptoms of ill health, it is ultimately the Supervisor’s decision as to whether the child should remain at the Program. If a child develops a temperature or displays any other symptoms of illness throughout the day,

the parent will be contacted to pick up their child as soon as possible. If a child shows signs of a contagious disease, a Doctor’s note will be required prior to the child’s return to the program.

For families receiving a Subsidy from Toronto Children Services the following applies:

  1. Children are permitted 35 absent days (vacation and sick) per calendar year (Jan. to Dec.).
  2. Absences are not to exceed 20 consecutive days as per the City of Toronto’s subsidized care agreement.
  3. Parents/guardian is responsible for assessed fees when a child is absent.
  4. If a child exceeds the allowable number of absent days, the parent/guardian is responsible for paying the full fee (see full fee memo on Parent Board).
  5. Statutory holidays and days a program does not offer service will be excluded. Request for additional days of absence, beyond the 35 allowable days may be approved through an appeal process. Appeals will be considered.

NB. It is considered a Criminal Offence to falsify any official documents i.e. Subsidy Attendance

***If a parent is unable to leave school or work to pick up their ill child, the parent must make arrangements for another person to do so. ***

***If your child is sent home due to fever or diarrhea, your child must remain at home for a minimum of 24 hours. Symptoms must not be present for 24 hours before returning to the Child Care Centre.***
