To enhance our curriculum and hands-on experiences for children, the child care centre educators and children may participate in such experiences as local community outings, broader field trips such as an outing to farms, parks and education centres alongside building meaningful links with the local community.
Community Walks
Parent Permission: As part of the enrollment package, parents must sign a community field trip form.
Experiences: Children will explore the neighborhood within their community by walking to the local library, store, park, or simply take a walk within the community to explore their five senses. These hands-on opportunities give children the chance to explore the world around them. Trips to the store to purchase food for a cooking activity, a safety walk to look at signs in the community and how to cross streets safely are some things children learn to enhance their development. These experiences are indicated on the children’s curriculum plans which are posted on a weekly basis for parents to read. Last minute community walks may happen if the children’s playground is out of bounds for the children due to repairs or bad weather conditions.
Field Trips by TTC or School Bus
Parent Permission: Field trips that require the children to take a school bus, TTC transit or cross a major street, will have a signed parent permission form for each trip.
Parent Volunteers MUST provide the Child Care Centre with a clear Police Criminal Reference Check, which includes the Vulnerable Sector Screening, in order to volunteer.
Experiences: During the Summer, Winter, March Break and P.A. Days, the Child Care Centre may plan field trips to such places as Royal Ontario Museum, High Park, Pucks Farm, or Ontario Science Centre as part of a curriculum enhancement program.
Notices and permission forms are handed out for each trip ahead of time. Permission forms will have the time the children will be leaving and returning to the centre and the mode of transportation that the children and educators will be taking. At this time we encourage parents to participate to ensure our ratios for children under the age of five years is at a ratio of 1 adult to 2 or 3 children. This is to ensure the children are well supervised when away from the Child Care Centre. Unfortunately trips may be cancelled due to insufficient volunteers.
For each individual trip, a planned alternate route will be determined, in advance, in case of emergency.
