Child Care Services
The following are specific considerations to Volunteers and Students in LEF Child Care Centres:
- Volunteers must be 18 yrs of age or older.
- LEF has developed and implemented a policy for the supervision of students and volunteers
- At no time are volunteers and/or students to be left alone with the children. Only the Learning Enrichment Foundation employees will have direct unsupervised access to the children
- Volunteers and/students are not to be included in staff ratios
- Supervisors are required to set up an orientation date for all volunteers and/or students prior to starting placement
- Supervisor will ensure that Volunteers and Students review, sign and date the following policies prior to placement within the centres:
- Playground Safety Policy
- Volunteer and Student Policy
- Program Statement Policy
- Behaviour Management Policy
- Sanitary Practices Policy
- Sleep Supervision Policy
- Medication Policy
- Child Abuse Policy
- Serious Occurrence Policy
- Child’s individual Anaphylaxis policy
- Fire Safety and Evacuation Procedures
- Policies are to be reviewed and signed annually thereafter.
- The Learning Enrichment Foundation expects that all supervisors will complete a Behaviour Management Monitoring checklist on all Volunteers and/or Students doing placement within the child care centre
- Volunteers and/or Students are required to complete a Criminal Reference check/ Vulnerable Sector check prior to the start of placement
- Supervisor will review expectations of the volunteers and/or Students during orientation.
- Supervisor will assign a supervising teacher and together both will be responsible to oversee and supervise the Volunteer and/or Student
- Only Early Childhood Educators will be assigned as supervising teachers and will act as a resource and mentor to the Volunteer and/or Student
- The Learning Enrichment Foundation Volunteers and/or Students will be covered by the operators (Child Care) insurance; any students placed through outside educational institutions will be covered under the educational institution’s insurance
- Volunteers and/ or students may be required to provide a true copy of their Criminal Reference check/ Vulnerable Sector check
